On Thursday, September 22, 2022, during the QS Higher Ed Summit: Americas event, QS published the results that qualify the best universities in Latin America. Among the twelve universities that were included for the first time, is the Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo. During this event, ESPOCH representatives, Dr. Yolanda Díaz, Mgs and Ing. Mayra Zambrano, Mgs, received an official recognition from QS on behalf of the institution.
To enter this ranking, universities must meet several requirements such as: offering qualifying undergraduate and graduate programs in one of the 5 broad areas of knowledge (Arts and Humanities; Engineering and Technology; Life Sciences and Medicine; Natural Sciences and Natural Sciences). Social.)
The parameters evaluated were: Academic reputation; Employer's reputation; Teacher to student ratio; Ph.D. professors; international research networks; citations per paper; Papers per teacher; website impact.
In this context, ESPOCH stands out in: “Professor-student ratio”, which refers to the relationship between the number of academic staff and the number of students; a higher number of teachers per student is an indirect indicator of institutions' commitment to high-quality teaching.
“Personnel with a Ph.D.”, this indicator identifies the proportion of teachers who have reached the highest educational level in their area of specialization. This is an indirect measure of the universities' commitment to teaching and research.
“Articles per professor”, determines on average the number of scientific publications (articles) produced by each professor-researcher and evaluates the productivity in terms of research in the institutions; These data are provided by Elsevier from Scopus.
“Web impact” evaluates the effectiveness of the use of new technologies in institutions; reference information is provided by the Web of Universities ranking.
In this sense, ESPOCH works intensely on the continuous improvement of higher education, promoting quality professional training.
